Treatment for colon polyps is removal of the polyps, called polypectomy. Dr. Patel, can you tell us about polypectomy?
Sure, Major Spencer. In most cases, polyps are removed with tools inserted through a channel in the colonoscope at the time of colonoscopy. Some of these tools look like little pinchers or a lasso. Polyp removal does not cause discomfort.
Sometimes, however, a polyp is too large to remove completely at one time. In these situations, a patient may have to come back for a second colonoscopy or undergo surgery to remove the entire polyp.
